University's proposal

I think Fife Council would be foolish not to consider the University's proposal very seriously. It presents what is probably a unique situation, through timing and circumstance, with so many exciting opportunities for providing a very well resourced and modern secondary school. The obvious advantages would include the range of sports facilities, the closer proximity to playing fields, the ease of traffic congestion in St.Andrews and around Kilrymont and the possible links with the University's Science Park.

The opportunities afforded in building a new school are also many. I would be very keen to see some imaginative and creative architectural design for a new school. I was hugely disappointed in the architecture of the recently built Primary School in Anstruther. So much could be done to enhance and enrich the learning and teaching environment, and to make it fun!

I would also be keen too see a new school incorporate state of the art ecological features, including customised recycling and reusing facilities for paper, metal, plastic, batteries, ink cartridges, clothes, mobiles(!), kitchen and garden waste, the use of grey water systems and the reuse of rainwater, the use of solar, wind and water energy, gardens and good horticultural resources, facilities for keeping hens and other farm animals, outdoor sculptures and play resources, healthy food and drink vending machines and an exclusion zone for chip vans.

I do hope that these and many other features are thought about when the time comes.

With best wishes,

Adam Alexander
